American Bottom: Stringtown

 

 

In August 1993 the flood waters ponded in a corn field near Stringtown, well south of the break. It was very slow to drain away. The corn rotted and broke off at the floodline. In January months after the flood drained away, the broken corn stalks measured the height of the flood.
